A magistrate’s court in Bandra called for a report from the police by May 9 on the complaint under section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Mumbai: The city police were ordered by a court here on Saturday to look into a criminal complaint against television and movie producer Ekta Kapoor for allegedly demeaning Indian soldiers in one of her web series.
Under section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, a Bandra magistrate’s court ordered the police to provide a report on the allegation by May 9.
A magistrate may investigate a criminal complaint under this provision or may order the police to do so.
YouTuber Vikas Pathak, also referred to as “Hindustani bhau,” filed the lawsuit. In addition to Ekta, it named her parents, Shobha and Jeetendra Kapoor, and her OTT platform, Alt Balaji.
A military commander was depicted engaging in a “illicit sexual act” in a web series on Alt Balaji, according to the complaint submitted through counsel Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh.
“The accused have stooped to a cheap low and shamelessly targeted the dignity and pride of our country by depicting Indian Army military uniform in the illicit sexual act with national emblem on it,” read the complaint.
