RCB Updatesocial media news

Bengaluru, June 6, 2025 — What was supposed to be a moment of pure joy and celebration for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans turned into an unimaginable tragedy. A stampede broke out outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB victory parade, claiming at least 11 lives and injuring more than 30 people, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The incident occurred a day after RCB secured their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 18 years. The massive turnout of fans—estimated between 3 to 4 lakh—overwhelmed the area around the stadium, which only has a capacity of around 35,000, leading to a chaotic and mismanaged situation.

Eyewitnesses described the crowd as “psycho,” with people climbing over 12-foot walls covered in barbed wire to gain access. An RCB fan tweeted, “I’ve never seen anything like it. People had no regard for others’ safety.”

Karnataka Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow, stating, “I will not defend what happened. A magisterial inquiry has been initiated, and I’ve given a 15-day deadline for the report.” The government announced ₹10 lakh in compensation for the deceased and promised free treatment for the injured.

Despite the chaos outside, celebrations continued inside the stadium, drawing criticism toward RCB officials. However, IPL Chairman clarified that the officials were unaware of the tragedy unfolding outside. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah remarked, “This is an eye-opener. BCCI has no jurisdiction over private franchise celebrations. In Ahmedabad, we managed 1.3 million fans during the match without incident.”

RCB released a heartfelt statement expressing their grief and extending condolences to affected families. “We are deeply hurt. Fans’ safety is our top priority. The moment we were informed, the event was halted, and we followed the administration’s guidance,” the statement read.

RCB player Virat Kohli echoed the message on social media, writing, “At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted.”

The incident drew nationwide mourning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it “heartbreaking,” while cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, and Shikhar Dhawan extended their condolences. Comparisons were drawn to the well-managed T20 World Cup parade in Mumbai, raising questions about accountability.

There are reports suggesting police had denied permission for the parade, sparking public outrage. Social media users are now demanding answers, with many asking who will be held responsible—especially recalling past cases where individuals were arrested after similar stampedes at public events.
